It’s DLD Awareness Day! 🗣️ 🧠 Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) is a hidden disability. You can’t often ‘see’ it, but it can have real functional impacts and affects how children understand and use language every day.
DLD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental conditions and impacts 1 in 14 children, (about 7% of school age children) yet it often goes unrecognized. Swipe to read more information about DLD, thanks to the amazing work of BABEL Lab research assistant ✨ @lindseyysherman ✨
Because DLD is invisible, students are too often misunderstood or misdiagnosed, especially bilingual children whose language differences are mistaken for disorder.
Awareness matters. When we see DLD clearly, we can support every child’s communication and learning with the support they actually need. 💛
