Our Latest Research on Functional Language Proficiency in Bilingual Children



Gatekeepers during the review process tried to stop this work for years, so you know it’s good 🤗 Interestingly, the gatekeeping was misinformed, ignorant, and showed us just how disconnected ‘experts’ can be from the very communities that we should be learning most from. In fact, these many years of rejections rooted in ignorance have inspired several currently funded projects in the lab. We are grateful for these experiences which have opened up our eyes to the very realities that impede progress and innovation in our profession and communities 😜🫶🏽


This work is a testament to perseverance, resilience, and the recognition that communities like ours in the Sonoran borderlands are filled with cultural-linguistic wealth that has so often been undervalued or underacknowledged in the professions.
