Celebrating Research and our BABEL Lab Undergraduate researcher Alberto Bolanos!
Starting off the week with a shout out to Alberto Bolanos, BABEL Lab undergraduate researcher, who presented his work at the University of New Mexico McNair Scholars Research Symposium! 🤩👏🏽
This summer, Alberto explored an important new research direction through his McNair summer research 👉🏽 when families in the borderlands look for autism support, whose voices actually shape the research? Too often, it’s not the Latiné families living it nor the ones from communities like ours in the US/Mexico borderlands. This puts communities at risk of pathologizing differences that are cultural and linguistic when they are made by people who do not know our communities. His project advances community based approaches with a preliminary framework that our community will help revise and shape to best reflect their needs and experiences!
