BABEL Lab presents for NIH/NIDCD!

The BABEL lab is honored to have had the opportunity to present for NIH/NIDCD @nihgov about the needs that exist to establish change in current research funding infrastructure and systems that support research.

We need to create more opportunities for research that is developed in partnership with the communities that we serve. It is time for a paradigm shift - we are here to work toward addressing the needs that exist. School and healthcare systems are not here to cater to what the research team or PI *believes* is needed. Oftentimes and historically, research has taken from community, but has not often given back. How is the research proposed actually going to lead to change? This is just one reason there is such a disconnect between the ivory tower and what is happening in the ~real world~

Let’s start by learning what the needs of the community are first and develop research geared to address those needs with community partners, experts on the ground, and those that are contributing to and leading our community organizations and systems. This change is so long overdue. 🫣
